• Barotrauma of descent
  • Otic barotrauma

  • Orbital hemorrhage and subperiosteal orbital hematoma from face mask barotrauma are unusual complications and can be associated with diplopia, proptosis, and visual loss
• Barotrauma of ascent
  • Pulmonary barotrauma (pulmonary overpressurization syndrome)

  • Arterial gas embolism
• At depth injuries
  • Oxygen toxicity
  • Nitrogen narcosis
  • Hypothermia
  • Contaminated gas mixture (e.g. CO toxicity)
