Background

  • Seldom lasts beyond 3-4 months of age
  • Diagnosis of exclusion

  • Crying for ≥3hr/day for ≥3 days/week per week over a 3-week period

Management

  • Changes in caretaking styles
    • Increased soothing activities (utilize the 5 S's: swaddle, sway, side lying, suck, shush), feeding more frequently, use of pacifier
  • Changes in environment
    • Background music, car/stroller ride
  • Changes in feeding for refractory cases
    • Removal of cow's milk, discuss with pediatrician prior to doing so
