Contact vulvovaginitis

Background

  • Due to exposure of vulvar epithelium and vaginal mucosa to irritant or allergen
  • May occur in virgins

Causes

  1. Chemicals (bubble baths)
  2. Poor hygiene
  3. Allergic dermatitis
  4. Parasitic infestation (pinworms)

Evaluation

  • Diagnosis of exclusion
  • Rule-out infectious cause first

Management

  • Consider topical corticosteroids applied BID-TID x2-3d

Disposition

  • Outpatient
