TSICU:Ordering Labs, Tests, & Diagnostic Imaging

Labs

• Point of Care
  • POC devices immediately available in the TSICU include:
    • iSTAT
      • Note on cartridges
    • Hemacue
    • Glucometer
    • Thromboelastography (TEG)

Tests

• EKG
  • order STAT PORTABLE, page 310-841-7278

• Bedside Echocardiogram
  • order STAT PORTABLE, under future order option select NO (otherwise will be scheduled as outpatient)
  • Urgent or emergent ECHOs should be requested via direct communication with Cardiology Attending/Fellow

• EEG (including Ceribell)
  • place order then call EEG tech
  • Neurology will be the service to call for a read
  • Report any stat EEG delays or denials to TSICU Attending

Diagnostic Imaging

• CXR
  • Orders for non-urgent CXRs are to be placed at the time of morning rounds PRIOR to the desired day (i.e. Tuesday am CXRs should be inputted during Monday am rounds)
  • Per our agreement with the Radiology Department, CXRs in the TSICU are schedule for 07:00am q day

• Ultrasound

*CT scan

  • call radiology for approval (CT head x1760, CT abdomen x7295, after hours page (p5814
  • call CT scanner (x8279/8289) ask if ready for patient
  • inform nurse to connect patient to monitor

• MRI
  • TSICU patients requiring an MRI MUST be accompanied by an R2 resident or NP
