Desert Regional Medical Center

History

The Desert Regional Medical Center (DRMC) is located in Southern California, in the historic city of Palm Springs; an area that enjoys nearly 354 days of sunshine a year and is nestled right at the foot of mountains, a national park and is a short drive from multiple beautiful beaches. The DRMC is a Level II Trauma Center and the only designated trauma center in the Coachella Valley, covering more than 8,000 square miles, 3 states and 2 countries. It has received advanced certification as a Comprehensive Stroke Center by the Joint Commission and is also a STEMI center and a Level I Methamphetamine receiving center.

The Emergency Medicine program is a 3 year ACGME accredited program with over 70,000 emergency department visits per year of which roughly 20 percent are pediatric visits. In addition, we receive over 2000 trauma visits per year and have an 18.3 percent general admissions rate and a 3 percent critical care admissions rate. There are only four other residency programs within the DRMC: Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Neurology and Neurosurgery. We also have only 10 residents (starting with the class of 2023) in each emergency medicine class. This means that we have an excellent faculty/staff to resident ratio and from the first day, access to very high numbers of high acuity procedural and clinical experiences.
