Brown University
History
Residents spend a dedicated four weeks in the Miriam Hospital Cardiac Care Unit, gaining an invaluable experience managing critically ill cardiac patients. Because only emergency medicine residents rotate through the Miriam Hospital CCU, residents learn about ECG and cardiac catheterization findings directly from the cardiology service attending. In the CCU, residents take overnight call alone and gain valuable experience managing a critical care unit on their own. There are multiple opportunities for procedures, including placing intravenous pacing wires, intubations, and placing central lines.
