Background
- Group of diseases that disproportionately affects the poorest populations in the world
- Worldwide they affect about 1 in 6 people
- Cause significant disability and developmental delays → as such, they often perpetuate the cycle of poverty
- Estimated to be the cause of about half a million deaths per year
- Also cause the loss of more than 57million DALY's yearly
