CMESL is the institution in charge of providing secondary and tertiary health care services to a large population that includes the city of Ponce, as well as other municipalities of the South and Western regions of Puerto Rico. The hospital is a 427 bed facility with state of the art technology that provides graduate medical training to over 90 physicians as well as a large group of medical students from our affiliate, Ponce Health Sciences University.
Centro Médico Episcopal San Lucas (CMESL) is the primary institution responsible for delivering secondary and tertiary healthcare services to a broad population encompassing the city of Ponce and numerous municipalities across Puerto Rico’s southern and western regions. This 427-bed facility is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including a fully operational cardiac catheterization lab and a robust vascular surgery service. CMESL also serves as a vital academic hub, offering graduate medical education to over 100 resident physicians and clinical training to a substantial number of medical students from its affiliate, Ponce Health Sciences University.

Trauma and Trauma ICU rotations are conducted at this facility, the only Level II Trauma Center in Puerto Rico. Located in San Juan, this site offers one of the most comprehensive trauma experiences available in any Emergency Medicine residency. Residents are exposed to a high volume of diverse traumatic pathologies and perform a wide range of procedures, making this rotation an exceptional component of their training.
Trauma rotations and Trauma ICU rotations are done at this facility which is the only level 1 trauma center in Puerto Rico.
