Wayne State University-Detroit Medical Center (Detroit Receiving Hospital)

History

Its program trains emergency medicine physicians who render the finest patient care with compassion while contributing to the specialty of emergency medicine through leadership in both academic and community medicine. Its residents gain unparalleled exposure by training at an urban level 1 trauma center with >100k annual ED visits as well as at one of the busiest pediatric hospitals in the nation- Children's Hospital of Michigan.

Detroit Receiving has a long history and strong tradition of training physicians in emergency medicine. Founded in 1976, before emergency medicine was recognized as a specialty, it is one of the nation's first emergency medicine residency programs.

Today, the program boasts one of the largest and most expansive alumni network in emergency medicine, including legends and pioneers such as Drs. Ron Krome, Brooks Bock, Hal Jayne, and Judith Tintinalli.
