Identifying a person, finding next of kin (NOK)

Some tips from SW to help identify John/Jane Doe patients or find next of kin (NOK) when no SW help.
ORCHID:
- Check prior visit notes.
- Look for alternate MRNs – Try different variations of the name such as, “J Doe” instead of John Doe or DOB and “Doe.”
- Check demographics for addresses, phone numbers, emergency contacts.
Patient belongings:
- Check for credit cards
- Cell phone numbers
- Hand written numbers
- Primary Care Providers
Ambulance/Law enforcement:
- Run sheet in Radio Room for pick up location
- contact law enforcement that responded to incident (may have belongings),
- missing persons list,
  - LA County Sheriff Homicide/Missing Persons: 323-890-5500 (24-hour line).
  - LAPD Missing Persons Unit 213-996-1800, 7am-4pm Mon-Fri
- Welfare check by law enforcement where patient was picked up
