University of Manitoba: Difference between revisions

Winnipeg is a city of 750,000 people located in central Canada and is the capital of Manitoba. The two major teaching hospitals act as a major referral center for the entire province of 1.2 million people, as well as parts of Northern Ontario, Nunavut and Saskatchewan.
This is a 5-year Royal College accredited training program leading to specialist certification (FRCPC) in Emergency Medicine.
Academic day is full-day protected time off clinical duties and takes place once a week.
There are approximately 4 residents per cohort.
The residency program has recently transitioned to the new competency-based medical education curriculum. The Royal College Examination will now be written at the end of PGY-4. The goals of PGY-5 are to entirely focus on Transition to Practice.

At this time, the Department of Emergency Medicine does not offer any formal fellowships. However, in the past, residents have pursued relevant fellowships from other departments.
- Critical Care Medicine at the University of Manitoba
A prehospital/EMS fellowship is currently being developed and hopefully will be available in the next couple of years.
