History

The Harbor-UCLA Department of Emergency Medicine was established in 1978 and its Emergency Medicine residency program is one of the first in the nation. The Harbor DEM faculty consists of 25 members who hold academic appointments at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and are members of the Professional Staff Association at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. In 1983, Harbor-UCLA became one of the first trauma centers in Los Angeles County. At that time, it was one of 22 centers in the County network. Today, Harbor is the only ACS Level I Trauma center serving the greater South Bay and South Central area of Los Angeles.

Harbor-UCLA is also the proud Founding Sponsor of WikEM, where the site and apps were first built and launched. We are happy to now share this great resource with all EM programs across the globe!
