History

Kent Hospital Emergency Medicine Residency Program is a 4-year EM residency at Kent Hospital, located in Warwick, RI, 15 minutes south of Providence. The hospital is affiliated with the University of New England, an osteopathic medical school founded in 1978 on their main campus in Biddeford, Maine. The program was established in 2008 with the first class of five residents graduating in 2011. The program is an AOA-legacy program and their original ACGME accreditation was obtained on September 16th, 2016. There are currently 32 approved Resident Positions. Dr. Katy Deblois is currently the Residency Program Director assuming her role on May 18th, 2020.

Curriculum

One block is equal to four weeks. A year equals 13 blocks and three weeks of built in vacation and allowance for one conference. Unless otherwise specified, blocks are located at Kent Hospital; elective blocks can be done at flexible locations.

PGY1

  • EM - 6 blocks

  • EM - 7 blocks
  • OB EM/L&D - 1 block (Women and Infant's Hospital)
  • Tox - 1 block (Boston Children's Hospital)
  • Ortho - 1 block
  • Peds EM - 1 block (Hasbro Children's Hospital)
  • NICU - 1 block (Women and Infant's Hospital)
  • ICU - 1 block
  • Vacation - 3 weeks

PGY3

  • EM - 9 blocks (w/ longitudinal Peds EM equaling 15% of EM shifts overall)
  • Peds EM - 1 block (Hasbro Children's Hospital)
  • Trauma - 1 block (R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center)

  • Elective - 1 block
  • Vacation - 3 weeks
