Jefferson Health NorthEast
History
Jefferson Health NorthEast (JHNE) is the result of the Frankford Hospital System (briefly named Aria Health) transitioning from part of the Jefferson Health Network to fully integrated during a period where local hospitals such as Einstein, Kennedy, Abbington, and Lansdale all integrated with Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.
Overview
The JHNE Emergency Medicine Residency Program offers a unique experience for education in Emergency Medicine. The Emergency Medicine Residency Program supplements the clinical rotation experience with affiliations with other academic centers of the Philadelphia region such as Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Temple University Hospital, St. Christopher's Hospital for Children, Cooper Hospital University Medical Center, and Albert Einstein Medical Center.
Because of Aria's diverse three-campus system with an annual emergency department volume of over 130,000, the residents gain exposure to both urban and community medicine. The main campus at Torresdale provides a busy ER experience with the busiest Trauma Center in the Jefferson enterprise with a high ratio of severity of community medicine in an uncontested environment. Residents will also get very familiar with managing the critically ill patients starting in the ED and transitioning to the busy ICU, Cardiac ICU, or Neuro ICU. The Frankford campus provides access to a population with a very low socio-econmic status with a bimodal distribution of low acuity community medicine and the very critically ill, delayed presentation or less frequently seen conditions such as cryptococcal meningitis. The Bucks campus provides residents the experience of your bread and butter, single coverage center (albeit with an attending).
