Treatment

  1. Post-menopausal --> 7 dy course (Cipro or Nitro)
  2. Pregnant --> 7dy course (Nitro or Keflex)
  3. Male --> 10dy course (R/O prostatitis, urethritis)
  4. Complicated (risk for subclinical pyelonephritis ~25%)
    1. Structureal urologic abnlty
    2. Neurologic dysfx (elderly)
    3. Hx of UCI relapse
    4. Prior hx of pyelo
    5. Frequent UTIs
    6. Sx >7dys
    7. DM or other immunosuppresed

--> increased course vs. admit

>3 UTIs/yr = R/O structural abnlty

  1. Cipro 250mg BID
  2. Bactrim DS BID
  3. Nitrofurantoin 100mg BID
  4. Keflex 250mg QID
