Background

  • Excessive polycythemia for a given altitude (Hgb >20)
  • Occurs in patients living at high-altitude who have COPD, sleep apnea or impaired resp drive

Clinical Features

  • Headache
  • Difficulty thinking
  • Impaired peripheral circulation
  • Drowsiness
