Assess A,B,C's

  • Also evaluate respiratory rate, effort and adequacy
  • Apply pulse oximetry/capnography

If inadequate airway

  • Open Airway
  • Use nasal or oral airway
  • Perform Bag Valve Mask ventilation
  • Notify ALS if only EMT on scene
  • Assess for an Airway Obstruction

Reassess Airway

  • Continue BVM
  • Is BVM succesful?

Yes

  • Continue BVM

No

  • Perform blind insertion of an airway device
  • Consider intubation if a CC/P
