Historic perspective
The word First responder emerged in the press in the 1970s in the United States. It appeared in the Boston Globe in 1973 about developing Ambulance Regulations in Massachusetts. Within a short period, the word gained traction and its use became commonplace.
Scope of Practice
The scope of first responders is quite wide. The first responders are also of various kinds, which include Medical First responders and Wilderness first responders. Medical First Responders are trained to deal with various kinds of medical emergencies till further help has arrived at the scene. Their scope involves protecting and preserving lives in pre-hospital settings.
