Ingested foreign body

Background

Adults = food bolus (usually meat) lodged above a peptic stricture or ring. >12 hours = risk of pulmonary aspiration.

Diagnosis

-dysphagia

-odynophagia

Work-Up

Consider soft tissue lateral ==DDx==

-stricture/ring-cancer-eosinophilic esophagitis-achalasia ==Treatment==

1) Coke-Cola PO2) Nitro spray SL3) Glucagon (1.0 mg IV/IM) 4) Endoscopy ==Disposition==

1) resolved (spontaneously or after medical Tx) --> outpt GI referal

2) not resolved --> GI consult
