Retinal hemorrhage
Roth Spots - retinal hemorrhages with white center
Pathogenosis - retinal capillary rupture and reparitive process (platelet adhesion in center of hemorrhage)
Causes
- subacute bacterial endocarditis - considered a pathognomonic
- leukaemias
- anaemia
- anoxia
- sickle cell
- connective tissue disease
- scurvy
- systemic lupus erythematosus
- carbon monoxide poisoning
- prolonged intubation during anaesthesia
- hypertensive retinopathy
- pre-eclampsia
- diabetes
- neonatal birth trauma
- mothers who have undergone traumatic deliveries
- battered children / shaken babysyndrome
- intracranial haemorrhage fromarteriovenous malformation
- ocular decompression following trabeculectomy
