Life Threatening Causes

  1. Cardiovascular syncope
  2. Dysrhythmia
  3. V-tach
  4. Long QT
  5. Brugada
  6. Bradycardia (heart block)
  7. Sinus pause
  8. Ischemia
  9. ACS
  10. Structural Abnormalities
  11. Valvular disease (AS, MS)
  12. Cardiomyopathy
  13. Tamponade
  14. Aortic dissection
  15. Hemorrhage
  16. Trauma with significant blood loss
  17. GI bleed
  18. Tissue rupture (ectopic, spleen, aortic aneurysm)
  19. Pulmonary Embolism
  20. Subarachnoid hemorrhage

Common Causes

  1. Neurocardiogenic syncope (vasovagal)
  2. Micturion, defecation, cough, swallowing, situational
  3. Carotid sinus hypersensitivity
  4. Orthostatic hypotension
  5. Medication-related
  6. Vasoactive Medications
  7. Alpha/beta blockers, CCB, nitrates, antihypertensives, diuretics, ED meds
  8. Medications affecting conduction
  9. Antiarrhythmics, CCB, BB, digoxin
  10. Medications affecting QT interval
  11. Antiarrhythmics, antiemetics, antipsychotics/depressants
