Administration

  • Type: Amebicide
  • Routes of Administration: Oral

Adult Dosing

  • 650 mg 3 times daily after meals for 20 days
    • Not to exceed 1.95 g daily

Pediatric Dosing

  • Children: 30-40 mg/kg daily (maximum: 650 mg per dose) in 3 divided doses for 20 days
    • Not to exceed 1.95 g daily

Special Populations

  • Limited data on use during pregnancy

Hepatic Dosing

  • No adjustments noted by manufacturer

Contraindications

  • Allergy to class/drug
  • Concerns with optic neuritis
  • Concerns with peripheral neuropathy

  • Headache, vertigo
  • Pruritus
  • Thyroid gland enlargement
  • Abdominal cramps
  • Peripheral neuropathy
  • Optic atrophy
