General
- Type: Coagulant
- Dosage: Pre-metered, gauze in various sizes
- Note: Used to be sold in powered form. DO NOT USE. Eye injury hazard. Expired.
Pre-hospital use
Indications
- Cuts, lacerations, and abrasions w/ uncontrollable bleeding
- Typical methods not working, ie. pressure
Directions for use
- Used to stop active bleeding
- Apply directly to wound
- Do not pack wounds
- Wrap gauze around to secure in place
- If bleeding continues do not remove Quick Clot/Kaolin - wrap with addition gauze
- Ensure during pt transfer the facility is aware you used Quick Clot/Kaolin
Mechanism of action
- Active ingredient: Inorganic mineral Kaolin
- Activates Factor XII - starts coagulation cascade
