General arthrocentesis contraindications
- No absolute contraindications for diagnostic arthrocentesis
- Do not inject steroids into a joint that you suspect is already infected
- Relative Contraindications:
- Overlying cellulitis
- Coagulopathy
- Joint prosthesis (refer to ortho)
