Aspirin

General

Adult Dosing

• 325 to 650 mg orally or rectally every 4 hours as needed, not to exceed 4 g/day
• 324mg chewable for ACS
• 81mg (baby) Aspirin common daily cardiac risk reduction dose

Pediatric Dosing

• 2 to 11 years: 10 to 15mg/kg orally or rectally every 4 to 6 hours as needed, not to exceed 4 g/day.
• 12 years or older: 325 to 650 mg orally or rectally every 4 hours as needed, not to exceed 4 g/day

Special Populations

• Pregnancy Rating: D
• Lactation: best avoided, low dose may be considered for antiplatelet
• Renal Dosing
  • Adult: if CrCl <10, avoid use
  • Pediatric: if CrCl <10, avoid use
• Hepatic Dosing

Contraindications

• Allergy to class/drug
  • Hives, Facial swelling, Asthma, Shock
• Bleeding, Ulcers, Asthma

Adverse Reactions

Serious

• Aspirin (Salicylate) Toxicity
• Reye syndrome - Children and teenagers should not use this medicine for chicken pox or flu symptoms
