Administration
- Type: Antibiotic
- Dosage Forms: 200, 550
- Routes of Administration: Oral
- Common Trade Names: Xifaxan
Adult Dosing
- Traveler's diarrhea, E. coli-induced: 200 mg PO tid x3 days
- Hepatic encephalopathy: 550 mg PO bid
- IBS, diarrhea-predominant: 550 mg PO tid x14 days
- May repeat dose up to 2x if recurrent dz
Pediatric Dosing
For > 12 yrs old
- Traveler's diarrhea, E. coli-induced: 200 mg PO tid x3 days
Special Populations
Renal Dosing
- No adjustment
Hepatic Dosing
- No adjustment
Contraindications
- Allergy to class/drug
- caution if hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh Class C)
- caution if recent abx-associated colitis
Adverse Reactions

- exfoliative dermatitis
