History

LSU Emergency Medicine continues its tradition of clinical excellence and leadership as it concludes its successful 2014 match, which includes its inaugural class of combined Emergency Medicine/Pediatric Residents! It offers exciting and comprehensive training opportunities with Level I Trauma Center, disaster medicine experiences, international opportunities, and its unique partnerships with regional, national, and international emergency medical services, to name a few.

Since 1973, the LSU Section of Emergency Medicine at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center - New Orleans (LSUHSC) has offered accurate, compassionate, nonjudgmental care for all patients with urgent to emergent medical needs. The Emergency Medicine Section has a mission to deliver superior patient care, foster medical education and research, and provide service to the community, the LSU system, and the specialty of emergency medicine.

It currently offers fellowships in Hyperbaric Medicine, Ultrasound, and an International Emergency Medicine Fellowship in conjunction with Tulane University School of Medicine. In partnership with the LSU Department of Medicine, it offers a combined Emergency Medicine/Internal Medicine Program. And, it is excited to have, in partnership with the LSU Department of Pediatrics, 1 of 4 combined Emergency Medicine/Pediatric Programs in the nation.

The Section is involved in various research activities. Large clinical trials are conducted in the Emergency Department and basic Emergency Medicine research can be performed at our dedicated AAALAC-approved research compound. It will never alter our commitment to teach and lead its resident corps, research new and improved methods of Emergency Medicine and provide first-rate care for patients.
