General Guidelines

  • Trauma/SICU Attending approval is required for all transfers and downgrades
    • Trauma patients
      • Reconcile orders BEFORE patient leaves the unit
    • Non-trauma patients
      • Primary service is responsible for reconciling meds once downgraded and transferred out of the TSICU


  • Out of network patients will require a minimum of 24 hours of observation in a non-ICU monitored bed PRIOR to transfer


  • ICU-to-ICU transfers require approval by BOTH service Attendings
    • Contact Laura Santana for all ICU-to-ICU transfers


  • Sign out patient verbally using IPASS (page appropriate team) and sign transfer summary BEFORE patient leaves the unit


  • Always remember to sign out patient’s baseline GCS/mental status and systems-based plan
